DescriptionCover published 1981'Who Will Be the Newest Member of the Legion of Super-Heroes' Final cover penciled by Jim Janes and inked by Dick Giordano. Jim Janes is one of the most overlooked Legion artists but he did very solid work on the Legion for several years. He was always making suggestions (layouts, prelims) for covers of the issues he was assigned to pencil, even though many of his ideas were not used. In this issue Blok is admitted to the Legion. Also on the cover are members of the Legion Academy - Nightwind, Crystal Kid and Lamprey. Social/Sharing |

I agree about Janes' work on the Legion and I think these prelims bear that out. I remember this issue fondly.

This is really terrific. I find it odd that the editor asked him to tighten up the first sketch when you can clearly see enough to know whether you want him to use that layout for the finished cover or not. But good for you, because it makes for a nicer collectible!

I am not sure the editor asked for it, Jim was known to produce things without the editor asking for it. He may produced different roughs and thought the editor needed a little more persuasion to use this one as the cover.
See the note on the side 'Jack - This one is my choice'
