The Godwin illustrative work does present an idyllic time and sparks a feeling of comfort. The comraderie, scenery, and the dog are all signs of happiness in this strip.

What about the hockey?!?! You're forgetting the hockey! The sport EVERY little boy in Kentucky dreamed of playing back in the 1950's, I'm sure!

That's just a cover for where they dumped the bodies underneath the ice for the unfortunate ones that uncovered their Moonshine operation.
