"L'Inferno di Topolino".
This is a 1949 story written by Guido Martina and illustrated by Angelo Bioletto. We're talking about one the first Disney stories fully realized by Italian artists and at the same time the first important one published on "Topolino" (Mickey Mouse) magazine. We're talking about the first "Grande Parodia" (many parodies related to literature and cinema followed).
We're talking about history.
This is a story every fan of Disney comics in Italy knows and loves.
Mickey Mouse is Dante Alighieri, Goofy is Virgilio. Martina used a lot of Disney characters in the story, including the ones from the movies and cartoons.
You very well know I definitely have a thing for this specific story, so you could easily imagine how I felt when the all-time GREATEST Disney penciller EVER, agreed to do a Mickey's Inferno commission!!! I really thought this would never happen since Cavazzano rarely does commissions and this was also a non-standard request.
I specifically requested it to be on a bigger size than usual and fully, detailed, pencils... I believe his pencil work is unparalleled and that was the obvious choice for me.
And here's the gorgeous piece that I picked up in mid-May at LCCAF 2022, simply perfect Mickey/Dante and Goofy/Virgil with many devils around (and also a couple of Donald-Harpy).
I love it.
