DescriptionGreen Arrow has always been one of my favorite characters. It's the Robin Hood aspect of the character I like. Long before comics I was a fan of the Errol Flynn Robin Hood film, I used to watch it all the time as a young child. The archery, the sword play, the fighting for right over wrong and Errol Flynn, it was everything cool to me as a kid. I even used to have green plastic figures of Robin Hood like characters (they were like green plastic soldiers except it was guys with swords, bows and quarterstaffs, and yes I did have green soldiers too but preferred the Robin Hood type figures). So it only made sense when I discovered comics that I would naturally gravitate towards Green Arrow. I read many a story with Green Arrow in it, main stories or back ups, it didn't matter. This carried over into original art too. I started buying Green Arrow title pages pretty early on, not on purpose but they weren't in demand and were pretty cheap. As long as they had the Green Arrow logo I was buying it. Lol. Before I knew it I had quite a few of them. I like them and I think they are cool. Here we have the title splash to the Green Arrow back up story in Detective #534. While posting this I realized I also have the title page to the Green Arrow back up story in Detective #533. That's pretty cool. It's the first piece in this gallery. Detective Comics #534 pg. 23 "The Black Box II: Werewolves of London!" by artists Chuck Patton and Shawn McManus. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! Social/Sharing |

So, first you posted a couple of Shawn McManus commissions, then followed that up with a few Chuck Patton commissions. Now, you're gracing us with art pencilled by the latter and inked by the former, from those fun and memorable Green Arrow backups in Detective Comics from back in the day. This can't be a coincidence, you definitely set us up for this!

Sort of...Kind of...If I had really planned it out I would have started with the Pattons and then segued into the McManuses.

McManus ink job is bringing the Patton art to another level on this one. The finish of the figures and smoke effect has his style. Real unique layout for the title splash as Patton takes some artistic liberty with an overhead angle, but showing the bike head on like it's on an incline.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. But who cares? More than close enough!

Who wouldn't love an eye patch and a Mohawk on a piece? Really fun looking splash.
