DescriptionFred Hembeck is amazing (or should I say, Mazing). Some might argue that the way he cranks out these sketch cards is detrimental to the law of supply and demand. He could run the risk of saturating his own particular market. But I swear, if I ever went to his eBay page one day and saw nothing there, I would probably have a stroke or something. LOL! One of the few pleasures I have as an old retired guy is my weekly check-in of his eBay offerings (daily, if I’m bored).
That’s what happened with this Mazing Man card. I have always had a soft spot for this character and when I saw Fred’s version (which actually stays very true to the orginal), I just couldn’t place my bid fast enough. It’s always been a dream of mine to someday own an actual DeStefano drawing of MM. But for now, I couldn’t be any more ecstatic about getting this one. It just might be my favorite Hembeck so far (in my collection, I mean). My thanks, yet again, to Fred for another quick, easy, and pleasant, transaction. Obviously there are going to be more Hembeck additions here in the future. I’m thinking, with the skyrocketing cost of art, at some point these sketchcards are the only things I’ll be able to collect. And that’s fine with me. Thanks for stopping by. Social/Sharing |

Getting a Hembeck 'Mazing is probably the next best thing to getting one from DeStefano. This is just incredibly charming, much like the original series.

Hmm, not sure who would win in an actual fight, but this is probably the ONLY time I pick a DC character over a Marvel character. Forbush is pretty hilarious too, but just something about DeStefano's art that really grabbed me and never let go to this day. Besides, you gotta love MM's taste in music. Thanks for the comment buddy!

Fun, fun, fun, indeed. Thanks Rick (and James). I know you're more of a rocker, but that's my favorite Con Funk Shun song (cue Marcus). LOL

He was inspired by your red pants from yesterday. Of course it's easy to be brave when you have a helmet covering your face. You, on the other hand, did it loud and proud. I commend you sir. LOL

So many of your posts bring such joy to me. I find myself giggling or actually laughing out loud. This guy's polka dot boxer shorts are what did it to me this time, ha ha! Thanks so much for injecting so much fun into CAF, Eric. :-)

Lol, those boxers! I always got a kick out of Mazing Man, too, and how can you not love him getting the Hembeck Treatment? I have to get one from him. And, agreed, he's as ingrained into comic lore as anyone. It brought a smile to my face, too, Eric. :)

This is awesome , Eric, not -just- because it's a Hembeck, but because you'd never know it to look at it (er, if that makes sense...). More than any other Hembeck piece I've seen, this probably looks closer to the "true" look of this character than any other Hembeck piece of -other- characters (does that make sense?). Apart from the squiggle knees (which gave me a small guffaw when I noticed them), there's nothing that is -obviously- Hembeck here (well, besides the signature :) ). Dripping with charm and color, just like the source material! What an great Hembeck card! Very cool pick up, Eric - congrats!

So you got that too? Usually, I'm not a fan of artwork in which the artist's signature style isn't stamped all over it. But you said it perfectly in your comment. Fred just absolutely nailed this character. Or at the very least, chose not to give him the usual "Hembeck" treatment (as he does with all of his character depictions). And it's only because I love the DeStefano version so much that I made this exception to my rule. In fact, the more and more I stare at this, the more I think it just might be my favorite Hembeck (at least so far). Thanks for the great comment buddy!
