DescriptionMilton Caniff became famous with his work on the classic Terry and the Pirates strip. Looking for more control and personal ownership, he created a new strip with Steve Canyon in 1958.This artwork was published on November 11, 1959 with a special Veterans Day message. A time very important to the extremely patriotic Caniff. The back of the strip contains a stamp which reads, "From the collection of John Verpoorten" John began as an inker for Marvel Comics in 1967 and later moved to production manager in 1970. Nice to think that this at one time belonged to Big John. An assumption is the original recipient of the artwork from Caniff was Hal Hanagan. This art was inscribed to him by Milton Caniff on June 4, 1960. Which just happens to be my birthday! I picked up this piece in a trade with Anthony Snyder (Anthony's Comic Art.com) at the 2023 C2E2 Show. Social/Sharing |
