DescriptionPublished 1962How Kid Colt Became an Outlaw! written by Stan Lee Retelling of Kid Colt's origin. Kid Colt first appeared in Kid Colt #1 in 1948 in stories written by Ernie Hart. The series continued until issue #229 in 1979. His origin story was first told in issue #11 (1950) by and unknown writer and art by Pete Tumlinson. His origin was then retold in issue #79 (1958) written by Stan Lee and pencils by Jack Keller, with several details of the first origin story changed. This version was then retold in Gunsmoke Western #72. As a young boy I was a big fans of the western movies which led to an interest in western comics and the titles from Marvel, Kid Colt, Rawhide Kid and Two Gun Kid were favorites. So this was a nostalgic pick up for me. These were the last five pages of the seven page story and most of the story can be followed in these pages. There were two pages from the earlier comic Kid Colt #79 in the same auction but I preferred to have the near complete story instead. Social/Sharing |

I know you need a friend, someone you're Kid Colt to
Comic artwork fan what you're going through
When it comes to guns, there's no Stan Lee answer
Only he can say what Jack Keller do
I heard your origin, unknown this writer
Said you weren't alone, but you'd fall down soon
Isn't he the guy, the guy who left you cryin'?
Larribee's the one who made you blue?
When you remember those fights when he's armed
You know you ranchers make up your mind
Are you gonna Blaine with the guns his issue
Or are you cryin' dad, with the son you love?
Someone's gonna cry when they know they've lost you
Someone's gonna thank the arts above

Keller did some nice work on these pages and it's nice to have them from a story where Kid Colt's origin is retold.

I am admittedly not that big of a western fan, but this is a great story and I really like the artwork. A terrific addition to your impressive art collection!
