Spectacular Spider-Man #189 page 4

For Spider-Man’s 30th anniversary Marvel did special issues across the four titles. Introduced Spider-Man 2099, hologram covers, and this one (the Blue issue) told a tight story, right out of a suspense or horror movie. Featuring Harry Osborns Green Goblin drugging and holding his family hostage for a dinner while toying with Spider-Man.

I liked this page because it captures the mood of the issue. Adorable little Normie holding a pumpkin bomb spilling gas. A classic 9 panel grid playing the beats out. With Green Goblin making a cameo entrance and saying “Gotcha”, which is a running motif in the lead up throughout the issue.

I believe Sal inks himself here. An artist I didn’t quite “get” as a kid, but even still always loved this issue. I get it now!
Bonus: he didn’t scribble his signature all over it!
