Description

Had a nice lunch with my friend Andy earlier today and while I should probably focus on this absolutely delightful Totoro drawing he so generously gifted me, I actually want to pay tribute to the man behind the gift.

I�m sure Andy has a lot of friends in the hobby. I certainly count myself fortunate to be among them. But for those who don�t know him (yet), or haven�t had the opportunity to meet him, I just wanted to talk about his quality as a human being. Andy is one of those guys who is so kind, so, warm, so pleasant, and so genuine that whenever I get the chance to spend time with him, I always feel so refreshed and so reinvigorated. Andy is the kind of person who truly restores my faith in humanity and makes me feel like this world isn�t such a bad place to be in after all. Especially in light of all the social and political turmoil we�re experiencing right now. And of course there was that horrific tragedy in New Orleans yesterday. It would be easy enough to write off our society and civilization. And these days, you couldn�t blame anyone for doing so. But when I hang out with Andy, whether it�s a short lunch or an entire afternoon, the world just feels like a nicer place.

So yeah, I got a wonderful new drawing from him. But it�s his friendship, and the ability it has to wash away some of life�s ugliness and stress, that I truly value. I kind of wish it was something he cold bottle and sell. But since he can�t, I guess I�ll just have to keep inviting him to lunch (although today was actually an invite from Andy). May you all get a chance to make his acquaintance at some point. But if not, I hope you are lucky enough to meet your own Andy someday.

If you look up "crème de la crme" in Websters Dictionary you'll see a photo of Iron Giant and a description of AB.

I'm jealous you got to sit down and break bread with him.

I thought it would have been the other way around. A photo of Andy and a description of Iron Giant. But I guess it all works the same. As far as breaking bread, if you ever make it out here to visit me, I'll make sure we all get to sit down together.

Well, Andy truly sounds like the kinda guy you want in your life, and in the world. We need so much more of that kindness and positivity these days. And what a delightful drawing! Makes me happy just looking at it. Thanks for sharing!
