MARIONETTE (MICRONAUTS) #3 -fake cover- by ANDREW ALLEN / TOM NGUYEN

I decided to base this piece on the vintage Michael Golden pencil sketch I've recently purchased.

I had an idea to drop a blueline scan of Golden's old sketch into an environment which might dovetail with the body gesture that Golden used for Mari. Golden has a few famous examples of 'LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU' sort of covers, so this one does seem to fit with that idiom. I credit Golden with layouts, since the whole piece is built around his old sketch.

Secondary images show my process. I printed out a 6-inch-high copy of the Mari sketch, placed it near one of the tires of my car, and dropped that photo into Photoshop. I added a few pictures of rats/mice filched off the internet, and presto! Composition complete!

I then lightboxed a version onto one of my MARIONETTE templates, and worked detail into the pencils.

Comic Inker Tom Nguyen gave the final product a professional finish.
