Description
Captain Mar-Vel one of the few people that Marvel hasn't brought back. Here the hero that risked it all by giving up his heritage to save earth, fought against the Mad Titan Thanos, is going to fall to cancer. Revealed to be from the fumes that he had stopped after his fight with Nitro, Mar-Vel tries to make his piece as he fights the Big C.
Here he talks with Rick Jones, everyone's favorite sidekick back in the day. Rick is in denial as Mar-Vel reveals his cancer diagnosis. The story takes all of the characters through all the stages of grief.
Mar-vel though they have never brought him back to life he has been used in spirit world like in Silver Surfer 63, he's had several people to take up the mantle and name. Among those are his children.
My exposure to Mar-Vel was from the back issue bins and probably in Silver Surfer 63. But going back and getting the Marvel Graphic Novel was like wow!
This is one of those issues I've been wanting a page from but thought it would be out of my range. So imagine my surprise when I am watching the heritage signature auction, had to leave the house for and hour only to sit back down when this auction starts.
I am aware of the fading that these pages are facing but still wanted an example from this issue.

Well bought!  Love that iso panel where he realizes he might have seen Rick Jones for the last time.  It's in pretty good condition and has lasted all these years, so not out of the question that any chemical reaction has stabilized.  That is unless you're in the South South where you have to worry about humidity too.

As I mentioned last Sunday on my Signature Auction review episode, I definitely think this was a well bought page. It's got nice images of Captain Marvel all over it. As far as the ink is concerned, assuming the darkness of the ink is true to life, this is also one of the nicer of the "pigmentation color change" examples.

I love that magnificent GN. Any page is beautiful. particularly, this one. Along the years, I think the fading is part of the art, part of the legend about it and, indeed, part os its extraordinary beauty. I understand you couldn.t wait to post it!

One of the all-time classics. This had me tearing up when I read it decades ago. It still has great emotional resonance. Starlin at his best.

A great piece of Marvel history! I enjoyed the interaction between Captain Marvel and Rick Jones in the comics. Key page with both of them!
