DescriptionI'm told this is an unused cover by Paul Pope (for what that's worth...what's an unused cover? A Pin-up? Also DC why didn't you use it???) featuring Superman, which I picked up through Felix Comic Art and brought home from Heroes Con. I’ve been following Pope’s work for years, and this one captures so much of what makes him unique. His linework is alive with motion and intent, nothing feels static or overly polished, everything lands exactly where it needs to.Superman front and center, lifting a massive heap of twisted Kirby style machinery. His body is caught in mid-motion, powerful. The tech he’s holding up has a chaotic, Kirby-esque quality, circular forms, thick contours, and angular debris exploding outward. It feels like a hybrid between cosmic machinery and an industrial pile-up, and Pope’s brushy textures make it all feel raw and immediate. My favorite part about Pope's originals, you can still see the working marks on the board, pencil notes, corner stamps, and layout guides, the process. Enjoy. Social/Sharing |

Awesome Paul Pope Superman piece, DC should've used this come on! It's a tribute to the cover of Action Comics #1 except instead of a car he's lifting up a twisted/damaged heap of tech/metal (maybe it was a car at one point but it's hard to tell) which has those Kirby vibes like you mentioned. Very cool!

Fun redesign to bring the off beat fourth world Kirby vibe to light. That wreck he's carrying is like mangled onomatopoeia within.

DC, there's still time to rectify this! Use this amazing piece!

Very cool. I see this as a Wayne Boring tribute and it is awesome.

This piece perfectly captures his style, and I love the scale and detail of the huge heap he is carrying. Paul Pope is a man of steel himself!
