Sonderling is trapped in one of his paintings. Kurjak is prepared to burn it if he won't talk: “Do you hear me, Sonderling, Sinistrari, or whatever the hell your name is? Do you still want to die, or would you rather choose a less painful way?… He’s not twitching a muscle. Truth be told, he stopped complaining a while ago.”
(Nik) “I have to disappoint you, friends. This is just a canvas. Sonderling has escaped you.”
(Tess O'Day) “I'm sorry! Samael warned me that trick wouldn't last long.”
“With Sonderling on the loose again, our adversaries will already be preparing countermeasures.”
“I don't think he can warn his master Nergal, who is busy battling Caleb, but this place could become dangerous at any moment.” (They may not know the details, that Caleb's "battle" is a trial.)
“Could he unleash his magical paintings to send more infernal assassins after us? Is that what you mean, Nik?”
“More than likely, but Sonderling's paintings can be used in both directions. And you know how, Tesla. Samael taught you.”
“Yes, and he's waiting for me in Eblis. I have to go to him.”
“Hold on! Look around, everyone. I can't tell you exactly what I hope to find, but let's look together.”
(The spoks Bozena and Meyrink chat) “What awful things that man painted! They scare me!”
“I, on the other hand, think he's a great artist, even if perverse and evil…”
(Harlan) “Maybe I've found the painting we need, Nikolaus.”
It's a painting of the Vodník (water spirit) who is holding Harlan's girlfriend Hanneke captive at the bottom of the Vlatva River. Now we know how Lady Druj entered and exited the Vodník's domain despite the icy waters surrounding it.
For the last time in this issue, page 58 was published with digital alterations, namely the repeated views of Sonderling's self-portrait. The bottom right panel is another excellent group shot in the art gallery, including the ghostly silhouettes of Meyrink and Bozena.
