Description
Mystivac, an alien robot, has given Scott Free a subconscious death wish (by phone call, on the previous page), making it seemingly impossible for him to escape from his bonds in this latest elaborate trick.

This is another Kirby page I bought at a London convention if the late ‘80s, possibly from Bechara Maalouf (but it was a bit too long ago for me to remember).

This page features two of the Female Furies, Bernadeth and Lashina, hurling huge slices of a boulder at Mister Miracle, who is mesmerized into petrified silence. But Big Barda leaps to his rescue! Crisp Royer inks make the most of the characters’ forms and of Kirby’s frantically fast-paced storytelling.

Ha ha. As long as Lashina doesn't go so far as to slice the actual page through. Gulp.

Thanks F M! So true, the poses of Lashina at the top, and the final leaping pose of Barda, really do make them look powerful.

Such a great Kirby/Royer Mister Miracle page, the split boulder image looks really cool - and Barda looks incredible especially in those final 2 panel shots! This makes me want to crack open my Mister Miracle Artist Edition as its been a bit since I last took a look at it, really great stuff.

Yes, the women are in the forefront on this page, and the Barda action pose really does make her look powerful. Thanks, Kavi!

Love pages with Kirby women in action - and what a great way to spend a few quid in the 1980s!

It cost me £45, and was the most action-packed at that price. There were other Fourth World pages for between £55-75. Outrageous! I couldn't stretch to that. Wait, why didn't I stretch to that! Bring me the time machine...

That cloven rock will never fall to the floor--! Vocabulary test! Page radiates dynamic energy, especailly the last page of Barda leaping to the rescue.

The Kirby-ness of it all enhanced by the Royer inks that could always get the most out of the Kirby aesthetic!

Terrific examples of Kirby dynamism throughout, especially that last panel of Barda bowling over Oberon. The idea of Scott Free having a death wish was explored at length in Tom King's 2018 Mister Miracle series.

Beautiful!  Just as you say, Paul, a testament to the crazy mad genius of Kirby's storytelling, with the action and tension and imagination simply EXPLODING off this page... but still not as fast and powerful as Barda in that last panel!  Gadzooks!!  Glorious Kirby madness in many of its forms, and personally, Royer's inks are always the deal-dealers for me.  Congrats on yet another treasure, Paul!  Fantastic!

Thanks, Jason! As you say, Royer's inks make so much of a difference - and Barda really does look powerful!
