Description
From the best ever year for Marvel annuals, 1986.

With OAX only days away, I realized that I still needed to post this piece from last year’s OAX.

1986 and 1989 are tied for being my favorite years for collecting comic books. Part of what made 1986 so magical were Marvel’s annuals from that summer, and New Mutants Annual #2 was a highlight among those wonderful books. I still vividly remember the first time I read it the week it hit the stands - the time of day, the room I was in, the weather outside, etc. I was nine years old and still had a genuine sense of excitement whenever I bought a new comic book, and this issue really knocked me over with its phenomenal story and art. It cemented Cypher and Warlock as two of my favorite characters, and made me a fan of Alan Davis from that day forward. This issue falls squarely in the “read it until the cover started to fall off” category.

On this page, Doug and ‘Lock encounter a de-aged Captain Britain. As far as first meetings between superheroes go, it was rather peaceful.

Typical Alan Davis.  Every panel is a gem.  So clean, so sharp.  I love his work.

Holy, eighties, who can I turn to?
Young Captain Britain I can't show all nude
I know you think Warlock like others before
Who saw your name and Cypher on the wall

Eighties, I got your number
I need it six or nine
Eighties, don't change your number
86 Alan line neat and fine (867-5309)

An amazing art page from a monumental issue, great characters to go along with it.  Cheers, very cool piece.  I truly love my page from this issue, which is not easy to land pages on.

Your page from this issue is fantastic - it was quite the shocking reveal to see Betsy like that!

Those X annuals were just artistic bombs and you got a super nice page from one (if not THE) best super hero artists ever.

If some comic art would be considered comfort food, this would be mom's homemade meatloaf.

Oh that is seriously gorgeous! Doug and Warlock, and a very strategically posed, underage naked Captain Brtiain so the CCA wouldn't have multiple aneurysms.
