Robotman by Richard Case

I visited North Carolina for the first time in a long time, and, by chance, my visit coincided with one of Shelton Drum's Charlotte Mini-Cons. I had not been to one since the 1990s. It felt fantastic to meet and catch up with Shelton and to soak up a bit of the atmosphere.

The show had a pretty good artist alley, but I didn't get to spend as much time there as I may have liked, as I also had tickets to see a Charlotte Hornets game on the same day. However, while there, I finally got to meet fellow North Carolinian, Richard Case.

His run on Doom Patrol was one of my favorites. In fact, I received a nice Robotman panel page from his run on the series from Shelton in a deal we made many years ago now. I told Richard this, and he was curious to know which page I had. After I told him, he talked about it with me for a bit, and showed me a nice, large colored piece of Cliff/Robotman in his portfolio which I liked a lot but was a bit pricey. Fortunately, he had this nice little sketch (which, after he drew it, inspired him to draw the larger finished piece) at a much more affordable price.

For the record, the Hornets beat the Trail Blazers, and afterward, two long-time buddies and I went to a nice diner downtown and caught up on life, the universe and everything. It was a perfect day.
