Description
This Gene Colan Daredevil half-splash is from one of the earliest issues (#31, 1967) I remember pulling off the rack as a kid.
I didn’t always love Daredevil stories (some of those villains… woof—Leap-Frog?), but Colan’s art intrigued me. Those wild poses, strange angles, and that moody, anything-can-happen feel—I was hooked.
I later learned that wasn’t exactly the consensus in a Kirby/Romita world. Fine by me.
Picked up this half-splash and a one from Iron Man (TOS) within a few months of each other—painful, pricewise, at the time, but I feel pretty fortunate about it, regardless.
Curious where other OA folks land on Colan — instant favorite, an acquired taste… or just never quite clicked?

Colan successfully delivers the highwire tension with this three panel beauty. The character form is spot on!
