You gotta wonder if Rick's "This is insane!" exclamation in panel 6 is Gerber adding a bit of self-referential commentary... (And you thought -DOC- was projecting in panel 5...! ;) ) LOOOOOOVE that top tier of Buscema / Mooney panels - so fantastic! Great lighting and weight for the dramatic unsheathing of The Eye... Panel 5 is wonderful in its stretch across the page (love the word balloon placement) and maintains the perfect balance to the page established in those top four panels. Panel 6 caps everything off with a beautifully inked "big reveal" (and even a lovely glimpse of Val!). Another sensational Defenders page, Paul! (How many more of these do you have?!? lol :) ) Huge congrats! Love this!

Jim Mooney is the real artist behind this run. Sal Buscema would do the layouts and then go home. Jim Mooney’s work on The Defenders is among his best.
