If Destruction Be Our Lot... #1 pg 9

Robotic Abraham Lincoln is tired of being told to shut up during his speeches and is begginning to wonder if there isn't more to life. He befriends a cute little breakfast robot who hasn't made breakfast for anyone in a very long time because humans are extinct and robots don't need to eat. The two are bemoaning their lot in life when the big nasty robot that eats obsolete robots appears and ends the breakfast robot.

This page is sad and funny at the same time. I was very much looking forward to the adventures of Abe and the Breakfast Robot and then this happens. Gone too soon... Fortunately my grief was lessened by the inset panels of the burnt toast hitting the sidewalk and Abe's look of OH SHIT! The wide panel anchors the page and the stark white silohuette of Abe really stands out against the chaos of the scene.

I wasn't familiar with Andy McDonald before reading this book, but he does such a great job drawing a variety of robots and still manages to make Abe look like an actual, factual, human. He also brings us a truly epic city-of-the-future that is bustling with robotic life but completely devoid of people. 

I'm calling it now, this is going to be one of the best books of 2026!
