Steve Leialoha (born January 27, 1952) is an American comic book artist whose work first came to prominence in the 1970’s. He has worked primarily as an inker, though occasionally as a penciller, for several publishers, including Marvel Comics and DC Comics.

Leialoha's professional career began in 1975 with the early independent comic book Star*Reach, drawing the five-page story "Wooden Ships on the Water", adapted by writer Mike Friedrich from the “Wooden Ships” by Crosby, Stills & Nash (and Young), and Paul Kantner, in issue #3 (Sept. 1975). He continued to contribute to Star*Reach and Quack for four years.

Leialoha freelanced as a regular contributor to Marvel from 1976 to 1988, working on such series as Adam Warlock, Star Wars, Spider-Woman, the Spider-Man title Marvel Team-Up, the Firestar Limited Series, New Mutants and 'Howard the Duck. In the 1990s, Leialoha began working at DC on Batman and other characters; at Harris Publications on Vampirella; and at Claypool Comics on Soulsearchers and Company. He also drew one of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed Sandman books, ''World's End''. The following decade, he became the regular inker on more than 50 issues (through the present day) of the reknowned DC/Vertigo series Fables, penciled by Mark Buckingham, for which the pair won the Eisner Award for Best Penciller/Inker Team in 2007.

Forthcoming is Peter & Max: A Fables Novel, a 6”x9”, 400-page hardcover prose novel, on October 13, 2009. Written by Willingham, it will also features spot illustrations by regular Fables collaborator Steve Leialoha and an eight-page bonus sequential comics story by Willingham and Leialoha that serves as a bridge to the New York Times bestselling Fables graphic novel collections.

He lives in San Francisco with his partner, comics artist Trina Robbins.

thanks for the kind words, Michael! i agree wholeheartedly--Leialoha is very masterful with the pen but unfortunately, very underrated. i wish the powers that be would give this guy a book that he could pencil and ink. i'm lookind forward to the Fables novel filled with his spot illustrations that's coming out shortly but manoman everything that he's penciled and inked just shines!
