Hall of Fame illustrator Robert McGinnis (1926-2025) was a true national treasure, renowned for his iconic movie poster (Breakfast at Tiffany's, James Bond, etc.), paperback cover, and Western art, among other achievements. Even in his 90s, his reputation continued to grow, creating numerous popular covers for the Hard Case Crime series of paperback novels.
One could hardly ask for a nicer example than this prime-era (1970s) painting for a paperback edition of Emily Bronte's much-beloved novel Wuthering Heights (one of my personal all-time favorites), featuring Catherine walking on the moors. Just a stunning McGinnis masterpiece!
This piece measures 30 x 22" outside of the frame, was rendered with tempera on board, and is signed on the lower right. It was also featured as a double-page spread (pp. 78-79) in the book "Tapestry - The Paintings of Robert E. McGinnis".
