DescriptionBoy was I happy to come across this on eBay. It's got a bit of a personal meaning for me. A loooong time ago (July, 1991; I turned 20 that month!) I did an interview with Mike Mignola that was published in Amazing Heroes #196. I left work early one day so as to make the trip down to Greenwich Village to meet up with Mike at his apartment to conduct the interview. After hanging out in his apartment for a while chatting and taking pictures, we wandered off to conduct the interview proper. Not far away was a pub called The Slaughtered Lamb, where over a great burger (paid for by Mike, thanks!) the bulk of the interview was done. He was in the process of finishing up work on the Ironwolf GN at the time. He said Christine, his wife, had literally not known him at any point that he wasn't working on that book, it was such a massive undertaking. Well, Mike used a piece of reference material to produce the illustration above, and he informed me it was based on the same reference material that The Slaughtered Lamb Pub used for the wolf's head that adorns the banner outside the establishment. So to be able to pick up this terrific illustration that has a direct connection to a very special day for me is a nice thrill. Still looking for the cover to Amazing Heroes #196 though! And this page has now been signed by Ironwolf writer Howard Chaykin, who personally picked Mignola for this project, in Seattle in March of 2013.Social/Sharing |
