I collected Flash for 12 years and I found that overall the covers were a 'miss'. Probably 20 great covers from the first 100 issues and this is one of the best covers printed over that time.

Bought this cover off ebay in 2004. While I had been collecting for 7 years by that point, this was the first piece that I threw in a gigantic snipe bid. 2 actually. Back then I had 2 ebay ID's; it was an attempt to keep my collecting hobbies separate -- because you could track a buyers every move back then. Well, I put in a nice sized bid under my OA ID, but then I put in a snipe bid using my other ID. I actually bid against myself on this cover. Needless to say, I only have one ID now.

But this cover was worth every penny.

I agree with both your premises here. Admittedly, most of my Flash collection consisted of the Barry Allen version, but from what I saw, aside from a handful of early covers by Perez (I also recall a really nice cover that looked like one of Kubert's old war books), Flash covers from that period were pretty disappointing. This cover, though, with its excellent Flash image and an overall nice design, is certainly a fine effort by LaRocque & Mahlstedt.
