Green Lantern as Othello by Staton

Iago:
O, beware, my lord, of jealousy;
It is the green-ey'd monster, which doth mock
The meat it feeds on. That cuckold lives in bliss,
Who, certain of his fate, loves not his wronger:
But O, what damnèd minutes tells he o'er
Who dotes, yet doubts, suspects, yet strongly loves!

Othello:
O misery!

Ensign Iago (played here by Sinestro) is fueled by hatred and insecurity toward an empowered black male. From the start, he sets out to ruin and potentially eliminate Othello, his political and sexual rival (he says, without proof, that Othello has bedded his wife). He also just seems to find great amusement in manipulation and destruction.

In this scene, he uses deception to worm his way into the confidences of his general, Othello (John Stewart), in order to make him believe that his virtuous wife (Katma Tui as Desdemona) is having an affair with another officer, the man Othello chose to be his lieutenant over Iago. Iago's manipulation of Othello to the dark side is the climax of the play and fuels the tragic acts to come.

Joe Staton, whose work on Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Corps books was a big favorite of mine, has Sinestro physically manifest "the green-eyed monster" with his power ring and has it mimic the Korugarian's actions. It symbolically shows Iago transferring his own jealousy into Othello in a way that I think melds the two different source materials in a most interesting way.
