Rip Kirby Daily July 27, 1971

Rip Kirby (1946-1999) was created by the great Alex Raymond after World War II. Kirby was a unique comic strip detective, bespeckled, monogamous, relying more on brains than brawn and with a valet no less. After Raymond's sudden death in 1956, John Prentice took over the strip with an impressive list of assistants, including, Al Williamson, Wayne Boring, Gray Morrow, Leonard Starr, George Evans etc. It won a Reuben in 1949 as well as the National Cartoonists Society Story Comic Strip Award in 1966, 1967 and 1986.

Kirby himself is to be found nowhere in this daily, which probably explains why it went for a fraction of what Kirbys usually go for. This is part of the story "Revival". It is wonderfully composed with fetching damsels. The guy winning the dance award with a lady out of his league is Cecil Desmond, an ex-con and Kirby's all-around valet, butler and assistant.
