Description
It's no secret that I love Gene Ha's work, especially on Top 10 with Alan Moore and Global Frequency with Warren Ellis. One of my longterm collecting goals is to get a page from each of the 12 issues by the 12 different artists who contributed to Global Frequency. Accomplishing this goal has been fraught with peril, as many of the artists have never put their work up on the open market. Furthermore, Gene sold all his art for his issue long ago. However, after meeting him at the Baltimore Comic Con 2012 and beseeching him for his aid in completing my goal, he said he would look and see what was left and get back to me. Here's the email I got from him yesterday:
"Here's what I have! It's the original design for the killer satellite in the story.

The problem was, there was no description of the satellite in the first batch of script I drew. Warren Ellis didn't respond to emails asking for what it should look like. So I designed a magnetic rail gun, whose major problem was cooling. Thus the cooling fins and the disposable batteries.

When the last pages arrived, I finally got a description of the satellite in the dialog. It was purely mechanical, working like a Roman siege weapon. Ugh. I had to redraw every image of the satellite.

So this is the only page I couldn't sell. It's pretty tiny, a little under 11" by 6.7".

Let me use the same deal I used for "free "convention sketches. I'll mail it to you USPS Priority Mail. After you get it, I'll trust you to make a donation to one of 3 charities: the Hero Initiative,CBLDF, or the US Red Cross. Email me a receipt after you make the donation.

Are you interested?

Needless to say, I told Gene that I'm interested! Thank you SOOOO much, Gene, this is the kind of thing that makes accomplishing my collecting goals so rewarding-- personal interaction with my favorite artists and behind-the-scenes fanboy geekout bonanza!

I salute your goal of acquiring art from each issue. This is a weird hobby and the goal is attainable if you bide your time. So congrats on getting a cool piece. And it's nice that Gene used the honor system re: free sketches.
