Description
Note the name of the strip 'slip-up' by John in the upper left. It's a Family Magazine, kids!

A lot of the 'gags' in this strip are what one might expect from CRACKED or MAD - cheap & easy pokes at the genre in general.

"Hey, look! it's Spock in the background!" >reader yawns<

"Let's have them land on the Planet of the Apes!" >reader glances at watch<

I think the humor resonates a bit more when the writers actually poke at the original Battlestar material - Vipers making 'ptui' sounds as they launch, and a sly reference to the notorious overuse of spaceship stock footage (yes, folks, again!). That brings a smile.

What really brings a smile is the astounding art by unsung hero John Severin. Note that while Marvel comics didn't have the rights to the actor's likenesses, CRACKED had no such limitations, as they could presumably enjoy protection as a parody. Huh.

I am STRONGLY on the lookout for the MAD MAGAZINE parody version of this property.
