Description

Attending Animecon back in 1991 in San Jose (could have been the first anime con in the US) were some great guest from Japan. We had the honor of meeting and greeting some of our counterparts that worked on some of my favorite shows. I happened to catch news that they were doing sketches as part of their signing and was waiting in line for a chance to get Haruhiko Mikimoto's (character artist on Macross, Orguss, Gundam 0080) sketch and autograph for 4 hours until his translator Bill, and friend from Nikaku Animart, saw me in line and asked me what I was doing. I told him I was waiting in line for Mikimoto-san and he just told me to give him whatever I wanted to get signed or drawn in. I slipped him my sketchbook, got out of line, spent time in panels and later on that day, after the signing, was thrilled to see this awesome sketch of Minmay from her Macross: Flashback 2012 anime.

That's a really nice Minmay. I was in the Friday line. As the signing session went on, they announced Mikimoto-san would not take requests and he did a bunch of Noriko Takaya's from Gunbuster. Bill is a really nice guy and Nikaku is a great shop. At one con, I was short of cash and his brother Akio took my credit card information (before the days of square and smart phones) and went back to the store on Monday to call the card company.
