DescriptionDavid Finch is a rock star. His work, for both Marvel and DC, is always stunning. His powerful sense of composition heightens the drama of every scene he draws. In this variant cover for Uncanny X-Men #524, he dramatizes the death of Nightcrawler as only he can. Look at the limp figure of Nightcrawler. Finch's understanding of anatomy allows him to draw the X-Man in a pose that tells us instantly he is not sleeping, he is dead. Notice too, the figure of Cyclops. The tension in his body, his clenched fist, his expression of agony, all communicate his inner pain. And Cyclops' eye beams shooting directly upwards are a silent scream of agony. The light of that beam is the only source of illumination in the scene. It's a powerful cover that really resonates with me. And hopefully, you too.Social/Sharing |

Second coming was a great crossover, the culmination of several years of crossovers post house of m. Finch's variants really showed off his skills, and this is one of my favorites!

Another world beater cover in your amazing collection! Love your description, as usual; speaking of "agony", to my eye the staging and poses evoke Michelangelo's Pieta, of all things.

Another amazing cover by Finch. This design and character choice is almost spiritually reverant, but full of raw emotion as the leader has lost one of his own on his watch. Horribly sad but so beautifully done.
