Done in 1970.
Possibly for a fanzine.
Steve Hickman who passed away last year produced hundreds of paintings for book covers. His career spanned five decades and he was the winner of a Hugo award and several Chesley awards.

Wow. I love Hickman's art and this is out of nowhere. The fist popped out to punch me and woke me up. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, what an interesting piece. Appears very early in his career, maybe even pre-pro as you surmise. What I like most is that it's the one and only pen & ink piece I've ever seen by Hickman. So cool!
