This is a fantastic page! I love the Dillin/Giordano tandem here--a great example of the moodier Batman stories of the day.

It was nice to see the two Dicks (sounds crude) working together. I'm so used to Giordano's inks over Adams, Novick and his own pencils that it shows you how much he really added to the overall look of that period making them all look equally as impressive.

Thanks Ruben. I just really like that horror slant that was going on in some of those DC books at the time. Particularly with the Batman titles. Harkens back to the Golden Age Detective Comics stories such as The Mad Monk and others.

The mystery supernatural 70's stories tapped into the pulse of the 70's more than any other mainstream characters of the time.  Thi is a classic as it put Robin in danger once again and giving him a reputation as a damsel in distress.

I wonder how many times in this issue Batman says "Only one way to save Robin now"?  :-)

There were a few different instances where Batman had to save Robin in this issue. This was the most dramatic and morbid.

I almost didn't see the severed head on a platter because of how gorgeous Salome carrying it is illustrated! haha. Great all around page Lee, Dillin and Giordano made a great art team

The added spice of gothic mood really made for great stories that gave the artisitc teams ample room to display their masterful skills! This is a great example, with Dick Dillin and Dick Giordano on top form!

I have dipped my toes in some vintage DC pages recently, this kind of page makes me want to take a full plunge. Fantastic imagery and layouts with just the right amount of tension building dialogue.

A memorable page from an enjoyably macabre issue. (and the first page of original art from that story I can recall seeing)

A suitable florid villain monologue followed by a very kinetic set of panels as the deathtrap is triggered and Batman takes action!
