“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will.” – George Bernard Shaw
PK is a character first appeared in Paperinik New Adventures, a Disney comic, published in Italy, about the new adventures of Paperinik, the superhero created in 1969 by Guido Martina, Elisa Penna and Giovan Battista Carpi, which served as Donald Duck's secret identity.
The first issue of the series was called Evroniani and featured Paperinik's new alien enemies, the Evroniani (Evronians).
Introduced in the same issue were Paperinik's two new allies, the A.I. Uno (One), who resides in the skyscraper Ducklair Tower, and Lyla Lay, a journalist and robot utilized by a time police organization based in the 23rd century.
Paperinik New Adventures ran for 52 issues (March 1996 - January 2001) plus four special issues detailing various elements of the Back Story and focusing on minor characters.
It was then followed by another series in the same continuity, PK2, that ended after 18 issues and one special.
It was, in turn, followed by an Ultimate Universe continuity reboot, called simply PK or Pikappa, which lasted 32 issues.
2014 has seen a relaunch of the franchise:
- PK Universe, published on Paperinik Appgrade, stars the classic Paperinik along with characters from PKNA, and explicitly without One and the advanced gadgetry, counting on Gyro Gearloose's inventions and with economic support from Scrooge McDuck. It started with a five-part miniseries, written by Faraci, where the hero has to deal with the Evronians. Following stories in the same magazine are set in this new continuity.
- The return of the "proper" PK has started with the four-part storyline Might and Power, written by Artibani, published on the weekly Italian Topolino (Mickey Mouse) magazine in July 2014, and set an unspecified amount of time after the end of PK2. Future stories are going to be published on the same magazine aperiodically for now.
- A large-format reprint of the original series called "PK Giant - 3K Edition" has begun in November 2014.
The first series is considered one of the best things Disney ever did by a very loyal fan community.
