From the moment I saw the Shield jumping off the cover of Mighty Crusaders #1, I have been a huge fan. I am sure the star spangled look had an impact since Captain America was and remains my favorite Marvel hero. Maybe it was the cool mask with the hair showing that I had only seen on Kid Flash. Either way I was hooked and enjoyed his adventures in the short lived Archie -Mighty experience. Great look, horrible stories but again the Shield just looked well…Ultra.
Imagine my surprise when I learned the Shield was actually the original star spangled sentinel of liberty before Jack and Joe brought us the memorable Cap socks Hitler cover. So as a fan for years I have hoped for the character to catch on and collected as many pages and sketches as possible of the other red white and blue hero.
