Q&A with Paul McInnes
| Q: | Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why? |
| A: | Silent Dragon #2 Cover by Leinil Yu. Obviously, I own just a few (over 100 pages) from the series and this cover, when I first saw it, just blew my mind and I had to have it. It wasn't for sale at the time, but with some gentle cajoling (and a lot of cash) I managed to add it to my collection. |
| Q: | Please tell us a little about yourself. |
| A: | I'm a 50 year old creative director and illustrator, married with 2 young children and living in Sydney, Australia. |
| Q: | How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start? |
| A: | I picked up my first 2 pages of original art from the masterful inker Richard Friend (both Steampunk pages) at SDCC in 2000. I had never seen original comic art (not a lot of it around in Australia) until OzCon, in the mid 90's. Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio and Travis Charest originals on display. The size, the craft, the beauty of the work blew my mind. From there, I knew I would one day own some of these. |
| Q: | How do you display/store your collection at home? |
| A: | Unfortunately, due to a home that is very light, I've been reluctant to frame and display my art out in the open, so it all sits in folios. |
| Q: | What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions? |
| A: | 1. The double page spread from Silent Dragon #1. The one that Zack Snyder was "inspired" by in Sucker Punch. 2. A Travis Charest Commission. 3. A Olivier Coipel Commission. 4. A page from Travis Charest's Wildcats/X-Men. 5. Any page I don't own from Silent Dragon. If you've got one hidden away, I want it! |
