Q&A with David Kwock

Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why?

Kinda hard to say but, I had 3 main pieces that were on the top of my list when I started collecting art; an Alan Moore Swamp Thing page, a Mike Mignola Hellboy related piece, and an E.C. page featuring one of the 3 host. Over the years I was able to get exactly these 3 pieces and were the driving forces that kept me in the hobby, so these 3 are my favorites.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hi my name is Dave, and Im a graphic designer by trade who designs Movie and TV poster keyart. I started reading comics in college around the mid 2000's and started collecting art soon after.

How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start?

I've been collecting comic art since 2012. I was prompted to start when one of the managers running my local comic shop showed me a page they just purchased (I believe it was a Bachalo Wolverine and the Xmen page). I was so amazed to find out that you can actually buy the stuff; I got all the info I could from him and it was history from there. Thanks Max!

How do you display/store your collection at home?

I have most pieces in portfolios but have a select few framed in my office at home.

What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions?

I started reading comics in the mid 2000s (mainly DC) so I have a lot of nostalgia for comics in and around that area. I guess top reasonable five would be as follows although not all from that era... 1. New Frontier - Darwyn Cooke 2. Arkham Asylum - Dave Mckean 3. Batman - Greg Capullo 4. Blackest Night - Ivan Reis 5. Batman & Robin - Frank Quitely

The Saga of the Swamp Thing #27 page. 05
The Saga of the Swamp Thing by Alan Moore is probably hands down my most favorite comic book run I’ve ever read. I remember being in awe with almost every single issue of this entire run, and I find it to be heavily responsible for my love of the horror genre. While I do own two other pages from this series that I absolutely love; I never felt that I got one that hit all the check boxes for me… until now. I remember this storyline hitting all the spots for me in terms of horror goodness; an adversary who takes the form of fears was very intriguing in its own merits. Being a late comic reader this storyline also was my first introduction to the character Etrigan who has not only become my favorite Kirby creation, but one of my favorite characters period. One of my most favorite writers (Moore) merging two of my most favorite characters (Swampy & Etrigan) created by two of my most favorite artist (Wrightson and Kirby) into an awesome horror storyline is just a perfect storm. Also we can't forget the amazing imagery by Bissette and Totleben which made these tales so hauntingly beautiful. This page features Swampy and Etrigan facing off against Kamara, The Monkey King.
