All those fine, parallel lines in panel one are so gorgeous. The lighting technique as well.

It's always a pleasure when I see your comments. Its been like 25-26 years since we first started commenting on each others artwork? I think it started on Comicart-L in the Yahoo groups, and the Lowery Gallery..

An excellent example Thomas, but this is all Gray, except for the lettering.  I don't think Leffingwell had much of anything to do with the strip until later in the run.  This is Gray's pencils and inks.

Thanks Rob, I wasn't exactly sure but I will change it.

Gilbert was quite a character in the hobby.  I was only able to buy stuff when he offered it on ebay.  This is a very fine example of Alex Raymond with the different ways he can show it is snowing in the night.

I had the same interactions with him as well! If you were buying from him directly bring your house deed  with you, otherwise wait for his eBay auctions! lol

I love this kind of stuff.  I have a number from different creators from over the years.  I should post more of mine too.  For fans, these are pure gold.

I love this stuff too! Some of these cartoonists did these cards for many years.  Frank Godwin did some really beautiful and witty cards for several decades at least up until his death.  Alex Raymond was another one that did some really nice ones.  Walt Kelly is another major one that comes to mind.  Would love to see others as well!

I like that we get to see the colors here and how it's translated into tones for the b&w the publication.  Something unique just for thos looking at the original.

Thanks for your comment, but the actual cover that was used in the newspapers was in color.  I had to use the b&w because that is the only one I could find.  Hopefully sometime in the future I can find the actual color tear sheet.
