Nice Rob. How many El Paso bars did you have to hit before finding these?
There's was a restaurant in Northern NM that had a Mauldin hanging on the wall, but they went out of business during Covid. I've been wondering what might've happened to that drawing.
I recall reading that these were done for a proposed stip that didn't find a buyer. Several were later used in Help! Magazine which Kurtzman edited for Warren.
Actually, the comics books came first. Pogo's first appearance in Animal Comics #1 pre-dates the stip by 7 years.
Fantastic piece. Are Colan's pencils on this? I know Palmer light-boxed some of the later covers.
Great backstory, Rob, and a beautiful strip
Radioactive Child and The Last War. So I guess that makes five.

Love these Kurtzman color prelims
This is one of the best Pandemonia strips I've seen
A great pick up, and a real bargain.
Another great one, Monty
Really great piece.
A nice piece. This was used as the cover of the December 1950 issue of Varsity Magazine.
Nice baseball strip referencing a famous play from the 1969 World Series.
The seller on ebay had it listed as a caricature of WC Fields, which it clearly is not. But maybe Wallace Beery?
Wow. I thought Kurtzman and Elder had to surrender this art to Archie Comics as part of a legal settlement.
Picked this issue up on a whim back in the day. Been hooked ever since.
A beauty, from one of the few Kurtzman EC stories that have been broken up. Back in 1999 or 2000 the whole story sold on ebay for about $1,500. I missed out on it due to a wonky internet connection.
