Even the sound effects are pure Toth lettering. Great page - essentially he has used the layouts and put Toth on top. I can imagine the silhouette panels originally had a lot more detail and Toth felt a silhouette worked better on the page. And who would argue with him!
That is stunning. Loved that film as a kid. Always a pleasure seeing Davis nail a character.
That Batman Vs The Joker is up now. Or should I say Batman giving the Joker free dental treatment!
This is as detailed as a Bolland prelim gets. It's full pencils for a painted cover. Magnificent!
A great Thing with bags of personality! Alan's convention sketches are a " Thing" of beauty. It's always narrowing it down- which is hard when he nails every character.
Great line about Scotland's fans being being the wildest and unruly before becoming independent. Tom Tully, the writer was a Scot. Shows why 2000ad had that extra edge over other comics. Satire with a wink of politics. Fantastic art from Gibbons. Boy did the artist have to do a lot of art to compensate for the lack of colour. And boy did we lap it up!
Peter, that was one of the first things I thought " Hmmmmm those boots like familiar......."
Oh it's from the Ton Strng Deluxe collection book 2. And a prelim at that. Gotta love those Ton Strong covers.
I think it might. Have to say I love this issue and have a few ordway pages from it. Personally, my favorite Tom Strong Story.
I think it may be Peter Sellers playing James Bond in Casino Royale.
I have a feeling Bolton enjoyed drawing the top panel more then the rest. It has the quality of an eitching and he really went to town on it.
Great cover! First stab at Batman for DC would be Justice League of America 200. Which also included Black Canary and Green Arrow.
Great page layout and experimentation to the page. There's a rawness to The Stars my Destination and there a great deal of energy in the art that propels one of the best sci fi novels.
I remember seeing this on the walls of quality comics in New Cross for the princely sum of £30. Great page.
Fantastic page. Poor Banner. Really should be changing the channel rather than watching a green giant smackdown!
Really great page with the original Avengers. Really like the Adams dynamic of the first panel .
I agree. First thing I thought when I saw it was the " Devils " story with Bullseye in 169. I'm pretty sure there is Mad parody that has multiples of the same Superhero. It has a Mad quality to it. Something via Kurtzman and Elder.
Hi Shaqui. When I bought it as an unknown romance page I thought it was one of the Spanish artist of the time. I have a couple of a Redondo pages and its very close. Its signed Frank Langford on the back and he did and handful of DC romance pages.Panel 4 is more like Langford's style then the other pages.
I love this story. Makes a great page even better!
Just great. Like a 70's movie poster. A real treat to see.
As good a recreation as you'll get. Umpteen shades of great.
This is clearly the greatest moment in Marvel Comics history! If we don't see this used in a Marvel movie then I see it as a crime!
I certainly think this is one of Cockrums best images. I was looking through a bunch of early X-Mens in an omnibus. This stood out a mile.
Fantastic. Showcase was a treasure trove of goodies at that time. Nice to know it's on your wall.
That is a fantastic cover - boy they don't make em like they use too!
That is fantastic - Sienkiewicz has a knack for just nailing a character
Great page - you can just scan it and you can read what's going on.
Thanks David. Never thought I'd find out who the artist is - - I'm in your dept. Gallego is a fantastic artist - he seems to use a number of tools on the page.I think it's from an earlier period too. These UK comics from the 60's and 70's are full of gems.
Cheers David - I suspected Mooney inks as there is some great brush work. This pretty much dates it to Sub Mariner 60 with the villain - I do love the panel out of context.
Dredd on some giant mutant ant. Bingo!. How can you not love McCarthy.
As good a page of the Davis / Farmer team as you will ever see. Fantastic!
Just a fantastic Marshall Rogers Batman - Looks vintage to me.
What can I say - the arts as much as a one off as Marty. A really good choice!
Really like this page. Gibbons has nailed the Flash. Has a real classic feel to it.
Does my heart good to see more McCarthy work on CAF. A gem of an artist.
Great Mick Austin page - has a really sinister Gothic look to it. That fella sure can draw the night!
Great Von Eeden page - Never understand why Von Eedens star wasn't higher.
