I love Sergio and his work! This is a great page. I met him a few years ago at a Big WOW! Comic Fest in San Jose, California. My son and fellow collector Brian Peck purchased a piece for me of Groo and Rufferto and Sergio amazed me with how fast he signed it, with drawing!
Pencil pieces are the best! Looking forward to seeing your new acquisitions in person soon.
I love pencil pieces! Looking forward to seeing it in the Peck Museum when I can get there..
I hope you have had the pleasure of meeting Sergio, and getting a signed drawing by him. He usually has some at every convention and is happy to sign them. It was truly an honor to meet him. After I searched YouTube I found so many videos of him teaching his methods to multitudes of people. Thanks for your lovely comment!
I agree with everyone's comments! Thanks for sharing the original with me last evening - it's even more amazing in person!
This is a beautiful image and i recently was privileged to see this in person - even more amazing!
Love this page! Thanks for sharing.
This is how I first saw Sub-Mariner when I read the comics as a kid. I hope one day to own an Everett Subby but for now, thanks for sharing this great page! :-)
I love "big Tuska" and his great work! I own a page from this issue, a gift from my wonderful son and long-time OCA collector Brian Peck. :-) Thanks for sharing this great image! I also own several Sub-Mariner works by Marie Severin.
An amazing page! Thanks for sharing, Malvin!
I have a con sketch by Danny Bulanadi that he must have had in mind for that sketch. Very similar pose. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Brian's art collector mother (me) loves this great Tuska - Brian framed it for me and it's hanging on my bedroom wall, where I look at it every day. Thanks for all the great comments!
Subby by the great George Tuska is always amazing. Thanks for sharing your great acquisition! I have one or two Subby Tuskas myself and love them, especially the pencil piece my son Brian Peck gave me several years ago.
All I can say is WOW! I love the Alex Raymond noir influence too. Looking forward to seeing it in person.
I love Sergio and his amazing art and salute you as well for sharing such a monumental piece! I met him at Big WOW! A few years ago, he was very charming. My son and fellow collector Brian Peck gifted me with a signed Groo and Rufferto piece that day, and I was amazed at how quickly Sergio signed the piece, in words and images. 😀 there are numerous YouTube videos of Sergio teaching hie excellent technique too. You are very fortunate to have this great image!
Thanks, glad it is seeing a very appreciative audience, Jeff. :-) Everett the creator does Subby as I remember him from reading the comics back in the day. And we get Subby, Dorma and Krang on the same page!
It is even better in person! :-)
When you told me about this just now, saying "now we share another thing in common" I couldn't believe it! For those who don't know, I'm Brian's CAF premium member collector mother, and for my birthday or Christmas a few years ago, he gave me the OCA strip for my actual birthday (6-17-47), framed, and he added another cutout in the matting with the logo and artist below the actual art. It's in my gallery. Brian loves finding birthday art and I think he has a few, but not on the actual year until now. Congrats! :-)
Joe did an amazing painting of my all time favorite characters, after the greatest Big John! Wish I could afford it if it ever was for sale!
Nice! I think this is from issue 41 (I own a page from it). Big Tuska!
Just saw this in the CAF weekly spotlight on you as a collector, and I'm in love with it too. I especially love pencil pieces and have a couple in my collection (Grog by Jonny Hart, and an amazing Subby by the great George Tuska).
Amazing! Looking forward to seeing it in person soon.
It may be only a half page and Subby is in one panel, but it's in my favorites!
Great page! I was trying to enlarge it but your scan is smaller, can you upload a larger one or have our wonderful Bill Cox resize it for you? As you can see by my avatar, I am a huge Subby fan like you.
I agree, Marie Severin is an amazing artist who deserves much wider recognition! I have some art by her in my galleries, courtesy of my wonderful son Brian Peck.
Thanks for the iconic photo! (would make a great commission!). I really wanted to attend this panel but was helping out Dan Herman in his Hermes Press booth for half of that two hours ( Dan's Gil Kane panel ran concurrently with yours). I agree with my son Brian, I'm sure you did an amazing job of moderating and I wish these panels were all recorded as video, or at least audio for podcasting.
Mephisto is my favorite villain, and seeing these pencil prelims in person recently was great!
Fantastic! And every woman who was ever bothered by unwanted male attention should see this page!
I really like it better without the alien too! Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely! Beautiful flow and motion, and a gorgeous subject. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful commission!! And I like the Red Sox reference too.
Lovely work - humorous dialogue. :-) Birthday art is always a plus!
I agree with my son Brian. He has given me a beautiful Sub-Mariner sketch that Ramona did for him at SDCC a few years ago. She is outstanding. Beautiful!
Brings back memories of the 60s for me. Looking forward to seeing this art in person!
Love it! Nothing like Big John and Big Tuska! Looking forward to seeing it in person.
A beautifully rendered image of Mr. Kiner. Thanks for sharing with us!
I saw it in person tonight and it's pretty amazing! My son has great taste.
It's amazing in person too. Hanging in my house, on loan from the Peck Museum. Brian is the kind of wonderful son every mother wishes for.
Great piece! I think the 3 kids on the right side are African American - true to the time this was drawn, they would be the ones doing shoe shines.
I agree with you about it being almost a Sunday strip. Love it!
