DescriptionHaving stolen the Odinring, and with Odin undergoing the Odin-Sleep, Loki has taken control of Asgard. To make matters worse, he is about to force Sif to marry him and, with the aid of Karnilla, has created Durok the Destroyer to kill Thor. Here, Loki has just found out that Balder travelled to Earth to persuade the Silver Surfer to aid Thor, and smitten Karnilla is attempting to cover for him.The combination of the Buscema brothers is sublime. A page like this really make you wonder why they didn’t work together more often. Big John’s framing of Loki in the first panel is fabulous. Recognizing that the Odinring is the mark of Loki’s authority and power, he boldly brings it so much to the fore that Loki’s hand obscures much of his face, while still letting us glimpse his malevolent features. The face-off between fearless Balder and despicable Loki is another treat, with their stances – Balder straight, and Loki’s body curved and twisted – conveying both their nature and the narrative even without reading the words. The additional image is of a drawing on the reverse of the page. A bit of a mystery this one. Is it even by John Buscema? Social/Sharing |

Great page with some of the best "supporting characters" in the Thor comics ! You're right. the drawinng on the back looks not like JB, especially the mouth of the figure head..Why Sal didn't ink more stuff by his brother: Stan put Sal as the main pencil artist on Submariner, after his bro' had to leave these two titles to become Jack Kirbys successor (when The King left Marvel aprupt early in 1970 for DC) on FF and Thor! Sal also drew a bunch of Avengers, later the Defenders as the regular artist, also some inks on BWS Conan,etc..! And to make make Big John's Thor's issues look perfect and continuously highly kirby-esque they let Joe Sinnott ink them (after Colletta's few issues - who was perfect o Kirbs Thor issues, but whose inks zero fit on JB's pencils) anyway. But Sal inked a few issues like Silver Surfer and few Conan stories and of course this double-sized Loki-Sif-Marriage exptravanza in Thor 193 (where, like in the ealry Defenders, the Silver Surfer also appearedd - which Sal was already used to handle - as JB's inker).
