DescriptionThis was one of two pages in my very first original comic art purchase back in 1979. Attended a convention as I often did to pick up back issues. Randomly came across a dealer with original art that day at the Chicago Comicon. Wish I could remember who the dealer was, but they had stacks of interior pages sitting on a table. No portfolio. No mylar or even a polybag. Leafing through I found this page. Now, I love John Buscema and all his work, but must admit something. I bought this solely because it was offered for $5 and made my overall purchase come to an even $40. The 19-year-old me questioned buying more because, "how was I going to be able to store these easily?" I felt these two pages purchased were more of a novelty in my comic collection.Wish I could go back and shake him and say "Kid, grab them all!" Thor #215 page from 1973. Pencils by the great John Buscema and inked by Jim Mooney. Features Thor, Sif, Odin and Fandral all on this end of the story page. (I am adding a scan of the writing on the back of the board. If anyone can determine from that handwriting who the art dealer was I would be VERY appreciative. Thanks so much! -Lee) Social/Sharing |

And to think that 5 bucks is the cost of a single comic book today... Congrats on this beautiful page by two masters!

Times have changed that's for sure! Much harder for me to afford artwork these days.

Glorious page - I remember it so well, from the very first US comic I bought! Fantastic artwork, and a tragic cliff-hanger of a page. Congrats! You may not have bought all the pages put before you, but you grabbed a real beauty.

Gorgeous page to the Mighty Thor #215 by John Buscema and Jim Mooney. Love this beautifully drawn and marvelously inked page. Surprisingly this page, like many Thor stories, contains a sentiment not often found in comics. And that is the sense of despair and fuitility, the feeling that no matter what the heroes do, it won't be enough. And so we get great scenes like panel four where Thor's head is bowed and he is close to tears. Or the despalr in panel seven. It's a feeling of loss of hope, of the futility of even trying. Amazing that in a comic book full of superpowered beings that there can still be that sense of helplessness.

I believe we like comics for the same reason Bill!
When they go beyond that superpowered slugfest.
Greatly appreciate your insightful comment.
