DescriptionMickey Rat was an obvious take off on Disney's Mickey Mouse, but enough different and under-the-radar that Disney did not sue him (unlike the famous lawsuits against the Air Pirates).His first appearance was in L.A. Comics #1, published by The Los Angeles Comic Book Company in December, 1971. The following year, the same publisher brought Mickey out in a comic of his own. This piece is from 1972, soon after Mickey Rat debuted, and was a cover for a Bugle Magazine, a part of Bugle Newspaper which published 316 issues from 1970 to 1978. Mickey Rat's character was not finely drawn — in fact, it was kind of crude, a word that would also describe Mickey himself. He was sleazy, opportunistic, capable of just about any foul deed, but also shallow, one-dimensional, and incapable of growth or subtlety. He seems to have had little in the way of motivation, beyond his creators' desire to make him the opposite of the other Mickey in every possible way. Social/Sharing |

that is a relly cool piece. makes me wish i still had my Mickey Rat t-shirt from the 80s
