DescriptionThe Phantom - Wilson McCoy painting, dating back to approx. 1953.This particular piece was addressed to Robert, who was Wilson's great nephew. (Wilson's sisters grandson). McCoy was quite active in communicating with family and some avid fans through sharing quick sketches or painted pieces like this. Unfortunately Wilson McCoy passed away July 20th, 1961 of an expected heart attack. Wilson was an adventurous young man travelling the world for adventure and content for his work. One interesting tale was that in 1931, a 29yo Wilson McCoy was involved in a nearly fatal car accident. An aggressive driver collided with him sending both vehicles to crash. Wilson was only partially out of the car when the vehicle landed on him, pinning him down on the chest. In 1931, Wilson was the first ever medically recorded person to survive a double lung collapse. Wow! Anyway, Wilson McCoy is a Phantom legend. My favourite artist. Social/Sharing |
