Description

Latest "Continuation Project" commission - All-Star Squadron #130, art by Stephen Baskerville, based as always on the cover of a comic written, plotted or scripted by Roy Thomas, in this case Giant-Size Super-Villain Team-Up #2, original art by Gil Kane . Stephen did his usual superb job on this!

Title: "Weird War Tales!"

Story: In the last issue, the Shining Knight and Firebrand found themselves marooned on the mysterious Dinosaur Island, and discovered that the island also hosted Japanese villain the Dragon King!

The two heroes find shelter and discuss what their next move should be. Over the next few days, they scout the Japanese encampment they discover, learning that the Dragon King appears to be attempting to control some of the island's resident giant sauropods. Separately, they find an abandoned US marine post, and retrieve a damaged radio, which - using some spare parts - Firebrand attempts to repair, although with little success. They remain constantly under threat from bands of soldiers under the command of the Dragon King - and harassed by several dinosaurs; although the Knight's sword and Firebrand's flame powers are adequate to scare the latter away.

On Hawaii, Rod Reilly has reported the non-arrival of the All-Star's plane, and fears that his sister and her companion are lost at sea. From California, Neptune Perkins and Tsunami start a search, while the planes of the three Blackhawks who are working on the construction of the Pacific Blackhawk Island take to the air to join the hunt, and navy ships are instructed to keep a lookout. Several of the All-Star Squadron head for the West Coast to see if they can aid in the search, led by Green Lantern, although the magically-based and magically-vulnerable heroes are restricted in what they can do given the danger of falling under the influence of the Grailstone.

Back on Dinosaur Island, the two heroes discover bipedal, humanoid - and seemingly intelligent - dinosaurs, when their encampment is attacked! Fighting side by side, they beat back the first assault, but superior numbers lead to the Shining Knight being overwhelmed! Before he falls, he urges Danette Reilly to save herself, and reluctantly she flees, leaving Sir Justin to be captured - and dragged by the humanoid dinosaurs to an audience with the deadly Dragon King!
