DescriptionDave McKean's stunning, full-color original art for the poster created for the release of the Black Orchid TPB collecting the entire three-issue series. In addition to the title character, the poster art features Swamp Thing and Batman, who both make appearances during the series. The art is a glorious ~ 22 x 28 inch size. The original poster hung in my college dorm room - safe to say this scratches a very nostalgic itch!I had been frequently visiting this piece in Marc Mokken's personal collection and finally decided to see if I could pry it loose - something I rarely do for a variety of reasons. Marc could not have been more pleasant to deal with and the result is the piece now sits in my gallery. Thanks for such an enjoyable and smooth interaction, Marc! Social/Sharing |

Because McKean is such a versatile artist, he's had a lot of "peaks" during his career. For me, this piece has always symbolized the peak of his early years when he gave us such vividly realized depictions of DC standbys like Batman and Swamp Things and elevated C-list characters like Black Orchid. Just fantastic.

It captures magic and spirituality in this triumvarate of 90's gothic characters. Each one with inner flaws brought to light by McKean's use of glow and aura on this painting. It brought prestige comics to a whole new level in the 90's.

Man, the whole 3 sections of colors really add to the contrast. Whew. Each in and of itself is a sight but the adage "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" definitely applies! Congrats!

Pieces like this are like magic vessels and repositories of a critical age and arc, of attempts and endeavours, new ways of seeing and being. It feels like that entire explosive time has been encapsulated in one place. So cool to hear how personal this is to you, too, so huge congrats!

OMG! What a glorious painting to own! I love Dave McKean's Black Orchid work but this is the best piece of all. I love seeing all three characters on one painting, each highlighted with a different color, but all connected by an arc of white. Each character looks a little creepier than usual, but I know that's a Dave McKean specialty. Congrats on picking up a very unsual--and very beautiful--addition to your splendid collection!

Chris, so glad to see this in your collection! I too have such a fond spot for McKean and this book is a marvel, just magical and glorious. I would love to own a page from this book one day. Meanwhile, I will have to live vicariously through your collection.
