DescriptionJim Mahfood is an artist I have enjoyed watching evolve into greatness. We all rejoice in the current recognition of illustrative storytelling as gallery-level work. As it should be. Mahfood delivers a piece here that is equally at home on a printed cover as it would be under museum glass.Wanted to find the best piece of Jim's work to add into my collection. When I saw this in an auction preview it immediately seemed to be the one. (Was not helpful that Bill Cox chose to feature it as one of his Heritage picks later during a CAF Update. You keep doing that you me Bill!) Mahfood is all-out Jean-Michel Basquiat in this beauty. The imagery is wonderful and he features just the perfect amount of paint and splashes of color to accentuate the central figure. The 9" x 17" size is perfect for portfolio presentation. Just nothing about this I do not love. Unsure if this is published or not. Perhaps in a Mahfood art book? Will look forward to asking him if our paths cross again. It was a pleasure meeting him at OAX in January 2024. Social/Sharing |

Great piece, Lee! A nice Mahfood example like this is missing from my collection but I'll get there :) Really dig all the different elements incorporated in this one. Congrats!

Thanks Kahlil!
Hope to one day see what Mahfood you decide upon. I sincerely doubt this will be my last one.

Jawdroppingly cool art by Jim Mahfood! It's amazing how much Jim's work has grown and matured in the past couple years. He's always been good, but now he's frighteningly good. It can't be too long before some Manhattan Art Gallery picks him up and turns him into the next big thing. You picked a beautiful piece here. I love all the detail Jim put into this drawing. From the crazy cool tattoos on the woman's arm to the elaborately wierd headpiece she's wearing, everything is decorated and detailed to the nines. Stunning pick-up, congrats!

Well said Bill. I am very pleased to add this as my current Mahfood example in the collection. Contains so much that is great in Jim's work.
