Description

From the first part of the fourth story of the 2000AD incarnation of Dan Dare, this page shows Dan Dare’s crew preparing to land on the Green World, within the region known as the Lost Worlds. A stowaway monkey is caught stealing a grenade, and crew member Hales strikes it, potentially bringing bad luck to the mission. Body counts were always high in 2000AD, with plenty of violence in most of the strips. But the attack on the monkey sticks in my mind as particularly unpleasant, obviously affecting this reader (aged 10 at the time).

Gibbons’ layouts are fantastic, using a mix of profiles, space scenes and action to keep things moving. Bolland inked a number of Dan Dare double-page spreads, uncredited, while the two artists shared a studio. The crisp inks really shine on the profile of Dare and the spectacular Eagle craft.

Excellent 2000AD DPS from Gibbons and Bolland. The illustration and inking quality is top notch. congrats!!

Thanks! There aren't many Gibbons/Bolland pages around, so I feel very lucky to have got this one when I did (10 years ago).

Thanks, and it's a really large image as well. The sheet is about 17 inches by 26 inches, so its quite imposing.
