Description

From the first part of the fifth story of the 2000AD incarnation of Dan Dare, this page shows Dare’s crew entering Starslayer Empire territory and suffering the consequences. 2000AD artists were forever putting people they knew into the strips themselves, and here two stalwarts of the British comic industry are name checked on the helmets of two of the casualties. (Nick) Landau was a sub-editor and (uncredited) co-writer of some story episodes at 2000AD. The near legendary (Dez) Skinn, whose contributions to the comic scene are too numerous to list, launched Warrior magazine, which brought us V for Vendetta and Marvelman.
Evidently, Gibbons enjoyed detailing the slaughter in the first panel, so typical of the high-body-count comic, and the last panel is a real delight.

Daves drawing before he went all simple outline to please American publishers is so much better.
