My soft spot for the New Mutant Doug Ramsey, known as Cypher, runs deep.
He was an audience identification character like no other. All the hassle of being a mutant, none of the perks in terms of flashy powers. But still he went and fought the good fight because it was what he felt should be done, not because of mutant powers, but in spite of them.
He was shot dead in the 1980's, and after over twenty years of consistent deadness (almost a records in the X-verse), has just been brought back! Took a while, but we'll see if they're remembered to make him FUN!
His best friend on the team was the shapeshifting technorganic alien Warlock, who was very powerful, but lacked focus, so and together they formed a powerful team, Doug's decisiveness and Warlock's abilities.
Warlock is some artists nightmare, other artists dream character, as he changes appearance with every panel, but has to be recognisably himself.
