Having seen this one in person, I can tell you that the scan doesn't do this one justice... The face, the focus of his eyes and the shift of your eyes from his eyes to the tiny figures is pretty intense.

Agreed, you really feel the weight of these guns that are being slung around and how his body is rotating against the weight of them. The fact that the whole figure is framed by both the guns and the page make it that much more intense. Great stuff from an artist that hasn't lost anything.

Amazing story and something you will remember forever! Just curious, there are four elements (it looks like). The first is the screw on head sketch, then a detail of the wrist connection to the stone hand, but the other two... hmmm... knee details, maybe? I would love to hear more about the lesson!!!

Great page! And Mike is really stingy with his full page splashes. For a lark, I decided to count how he had done before the one I bought... Only 13 splashes in 25 issues!

This is really a beautiful one! I love the way he masses each of these shapes to really push and pull you from top to bottom. I keep expecting him to finally go too far and make it too devoid of detail, but he just keeps pushing the limits and making it work.

As I recall, Mignola wanted to bond with his daughter who (at the time) loved powder puff girls. He had a funny deprecating comment that basically summed up that he was never going to do that again.... :) On another funny note, I was the guy standing directly behind you hoping that you would pass on this and the conan cover so I could get them :) Congrats on a truly great collection!

I really love this page! Especially the way Mike makes Hellboy's legs so squatty to really emphasis the bulk of his chest. It gives him a slight sense of ridiculousness which makes him more sympathetic to us the audience. Anyway, amazing page!!

In the back of "Hellboy : The Island" trade paperback are pencil only pages of an unfinished hellboy story that Mike scrapped and decided to start over. I think inking over these pencils is going to give you even more insight into his art than inking over his inks..... I like what I see so far! Keep going!
